Mr. Prochazka is currently CenterPoint Energy President and Chief Executive Officer. Prochazka joined CenterPoint Energy when it became a stand-alone company in 2002. He has broad knowledge and experience in utility operations, finance and strategic planning. He served in several lead roles including chief operating officer responsible for the company’s five businesses as well as several key functions. In his role as senior vice president of Gas Operations, he was responsible for the company’s natural gas distribution system serving 3.3 million customers across six states. As president of the company’s electric utility, he championed the company’s early adoption and implementation of smart meters and intelligent grid to better serve the company’s 2.3 million electric customers. He also has had key leadership roles in Corporate Strategic Planning and Customer Service. Prior to joining CenterPoint Energy, Prochazka worked for the Dow Chemical Company where he worked in sales, purchasing, product management, asset management, supply chain management, strategy development and new business development.
Prochazka received a bachelor’s degree with highest honors in chemical engineering from The University of Texas. He has also completed executive development programs at the University of Chicago – Booth School of Business and the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University.
Prochazka serves on the boards of Edison Electric Institute, American Gas Association, Greater Houston Partnership, United Way of Greater Houston, and Junior Achievement of Southeast Texas. He is currently chair of Gridwise Alliance. He is past chairman of the Southeastern Electric Exchange and the Texas Gas Association and a past board member of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas.
