Chief Executive Officer John D. Hewa joined PEC in July 2013, bringing his technical knowledge, leadership experience and a spirit of innovation and enthusiasm to the top executive management position at the Cooperative.
Hewa, a licensed professional engineer and national speaker, came to PEC from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) in Arlington, Virginia, where he served as vice president of research, engineering and technical services. While at NRECA, which is a national service organization for more than 900 electric cooperatives, Hewa oversaw the association’s technical interests and its energy and power division, addressing cooperatives’ interests in power and fuel supply, emerging market issues, reliability and renewable, efficient energy.
Prior to working for the NRECA, he served as general manager at Talquin Electric Cooperative in Florida, director of utilities for the City of Manassas, Virginia, and as director of engineering for Bristol Tennessee Electric System. He has also served on numerous boards and committees for cooperatives and public power organizations, including the Florida Electric Cooperative Association, the American Public Power Association and Seminole Electric Cooperative.
